DEFINITION OF THE PROJECT

• The filling of a turning water wheel is to be calculated by means of CFD simulation.
• An optimum filling of the blades is to be achieved via intake conditions and the rotation speed of the water wheel.

WAY OF PROCEEDING

The calculaltion was realized with dynamic grids in consideration of two phases (water, air) and free surfaces.

RESULTS

• Problems at the water feed could be identified.
• Flow as well as blade shade could be optimised in a way leading to very low water feed losses at
  design point with maximum blade filling.
