By an impact test (DIN 10045) the ductile values of metals can easily be analyzed. Here, energy needed for the fracture of the bending test specimen is considered as toughness measure of the material to be examined. The test allows conclusions on the material behavior at impact load, thus enabling a qualitative statement on the energy absorption capacity of a material.
