Discrete Element Method

DESCRIPTION

Via the Discrete Element Method (DEM), trajectories of bodies can be calculated including the impact processes among themselves or with rigid walls. Moreover, this can be coupled with a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation in order to simulate the impact of the moving bodies on the flow type as well as to simulate vice versa the forces engaging the body due to the air flow around it. Thus, multiphase flows with solid bodies can be predicted very exactly.

This method can be applied e.g. for the propagation of ash clouds, in pneumatic transport and also for snow simulations.
