Sometimes it's all about the sausage

Why Thuringians slice their bread the other way round

It's all about the sausage

Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, when I took up my sales duties in the new federal states, I learned to appreciate the Thuringian bratwurst as an on-the-go snack, so to speak.

There were bratwurst stands at many car parks back then and an original Thuringian sausage is simply unrivalled. Even though I enjoy a stadium sausage at the FCH or FFV stadiums, the Thuringians somehow go one better.

Now that the weather has cooperated and Maik has brought a load of Thuringian sausages from his home country, he has grilled us above the rooftops of Heidenheim on the occasion of his birthday.

Whether barbecuing is more of an FEM or a CFD topic is certainly in the eye of the beholder. Regardless of this, however, Maik simply looks cute in his red apron and has also brought the sausages to the man or woman right on the dot.

However, when he cut open the supposedly still unsliced roll, it fell apart into 3 pieces.

Maik explained to us that the Thuringians cut their rolls from the top, as this holds the sausage more securely and also makes it easy to reload a roll with sausage.

This avoids eating too much carbohydrate and also helps keep the mustard off your trousers and T-shirt.

That's the beauty of life: You never stop learning.
